August 15th & 16th, 1998
Beat the summer heat and come enjoy Nebraska's ultimate fun in the sun regatta. The Harlan Yacht Club's annual Rum Runners Regatta returns to the water August 15th and 16th. This "just for fun" regatta has become legendary for it's unique racing formats and wild beach parties and the 1998 edition will be one you just don't want to miss.

Saturday's "break all the rules" race will be a long distance race culminating with the annual beach party. Each boat will be awarded a "liquid trophy" for finishing, then it will be time to eat, drink and tell lies. Sundays races will be sailed on short courses and may include a few unusual twists!

Entry Fee: $ 20.00

Results from 1997 Rum Runners Regatta
With August comes the Rum Runners Regatta. This years event can be summed up in ten words: "Mass Confusion on the Water, Major Party on the Beach!" As it turns out, somebody goofed up the course directions at the skippers meeting, and half the fleet sailed the wrong course. Now, without naming names, let me just say that I...er...ah...he will do better next time or he'll walk the plank!

What happens when you mix rum, polish sausage, cream cans and fire? A wrestling match! Just ask Joel, Doug, John and Eric. Now I ask you, how many yacht clubs conduct live "no holds barred" WWF style wrestling at their beach parties? For the record, Eric is the 1997 club champ!

John Stuchlik and Jay Sawyer traded bullets to finish tied for first place for the regatta. Virtually everyone had either a DSQ, DNF or DNS in one of the two races, so the results were a bit of a jumble, but everyone had fun and that is the hallmark of this regatta. Maybe next year we'll look at having a cage match!
